Tyler George, the Vice of the Gold Medal US Olympic Curling Team, will be visiting the club from January 4th through the 7th. Lots of exciting activities are planned, including attending the Hurricanes game against the Columbus Blue Jackets where Tyler will participate in the ceremonial puck drop prior to the game, instructional clinics featuring Tyler geared for both our adult and junior curlers and a dinner on Monday, January 7th where Tyler will provide some strategy insights on the Gold Medal game.
Join Us for the Hurricanes vs Columbus Blue Jackets Game on Friday, January 4th
The Hurricanes organization has agreed to have Tyler be the guest of honor for the pre-game ceremonial puck drop. Registration has closed for this event and tickets are being purchased. Further details will be communicated on where to meet, tailgating, etc. as they become available.
Come for Dinner on Saturday, January 5th
Join us for a casual evening of dinner and drinks with Tyler at the Carolina Ale House, Brier Creek location. Please pre-register on the Event Listing page to reserve a spot so we know how many are coming. There is a possibility there will also be a public appearance/presentation opportunity for Tyler.
Making More Effective Takeouts Clinics
Supported by other instructors from the club, Tyler will be conducting 3 clinics on making more effective takeouts. These clinics are geared toward adults and our Advanced Commitment Juniors. Each clinic, along with any intro to the instruction, will begin in the warm room with Tyler discussing the Olympic experience - insights into the journey along the way there and delivering on a Gold Medal. Instruction will continue on the ice with the following instruction:
- Delivery technique
- Strategy - when to use a takeout
- Selecting the right weight and calling the appropriate ice for that weight
- Playing the angles - where do I hit, do I throw inside/out or outside/in, and the drag effect

Juniors Delivery Clinic
Supported by our Juniors instructors, Tyler will be conducting a delivery clinic for our both our Advanced Commitment and Recreational Juniors. He'll talk about the journey to the Olympics here as well and provide the following instruction:

Member Dinner and Strategy Insights
Join us for a Carolina staple of pulled pork and chicken with all the fixin's. We'll put on the Olympic Gold Medal game and Tyler will provide some insights into the strategy the team took on the way to victory over Sweden (Edin). This will be an extraordinary opportunity to get into the greatest challenges in our game including.
- Building a strategy
- Tactics for each end
- Adjusting tactics between ends
- Team communication

Other Opportunities
We are still working on the plan for Saturday, January 5th. We may have Tyler make some appearances at local bars or other establishments. If appropriate, we will invite members to join us for these events as well. We're working with Triangle Sports Commission to help us establish either some appearances or interviews with the media or a combination of both. Stay tuned for updates as they become available!
