Dispatches from the Cherry Blossom

The Triangle Curling Club was well represented at the March 25, 2011 Potomac Cherry Blossom Bonspiel. 4 full triangle teams competed as well as 2 on a Nutmeg/Triangle Team and one with a team from Knoxville. While the 4 full teams did not fare as well as we would have liked they held their own. It was unfortunate the draw worked out that on Saturday afternoon all 4 teams were playing each other. Team Hamilton (Dave and Pam Hamilton, Cliff Gray and Lea Franklin) were defeated by Murray and Kathy Jackson, Sue Mitchell and Tim DeVaul. That put team Hamilton to 0 -3 and out.

North Carolina Team wins World Pond Curling Championship (By Kathy Jackson)

Team Tarheel from the The Triangle Curling Club, consisting of Murray Jackson, Kathy Jackson, Cliff Gray and Lea Franklin traveled to Gananoque, Ontario, Feb. 5th and 6th to compete in Pond Curling. A foot of snow 3 days before the event hindered the typical ice making efforts and challenged the bonspiel organizers. While there were no colored rings, only scribed, and the sheets were shorter than regulation, the games went on. The curling was much like years ago when it took all your strength to get your rocks to the other end.
